    Update:

If the game crashes while you are in the dungeon, the save can no longer be loaded, so only saving in town is not a safe solution.

Fortunately I had an older iPad using 16.xx there it still works, it also works on the phone.

Dealing with the Ravager is complicated because of all the support he has, and his near automatic fright aura.

I usually gather lots of potions that make me temporarily immune to fright.
A golem between me and the ravager helps, and it can be healed or resummoned.

If you want to try as a warrior, dual wieldings almost full skill tree with the improved critical chances skill can help as you can set up a chain of attacks that starts again with another crit. But this is hard to do as your crit chance is still low, and it requires lots of skills…

One way to try it is the popcorn build. This can be done as early as L1.

    Magical Implement
    Stoneshaper
    Summon golem

Is enough to make it work.

Once you go down, summon the golem. Now use stoneshaper to create a wall between you and the golem. If it has a way to reach you by going through other rooms, it will do so, and roam about on its own. Eat popcorn while the golem grants you Xp. If it dies then just summon it again and repeat.

This gives permadeath characters a way to very safely gain Xp. If you’re next to a stair you can even escape while prone….

This also works on higher levels. A master summoner, fast, strong, tough golem can last a while.

The previous post was eaten by the Forum, so I will repost it.

The archer build was even more survivable than I first thought. I used word of recall, and ended in a huge red room. When it was my turn to act I was down to 1100ish health after they had chewed through my mana shield.

It was only thanks to the archer build that I even got a turn, the armor class was 77ish instead of my normal 28 or so. The saves were also through the roof thanks to impenetrable defense, defensive stance and circle of protection.

There was an rune of anchoring preventing an easy way out, and I was mostly surrounded by mobs.

I still got out, thanks to defensive stance double shifts, and throwing everything and the kitchen sink at them from my free actions such as confound, sunshine etc.

Still it was a nail biter of an escape, with me thinking I’m dead multiple times…

Good thing my permadeath character survived too, because after clearing the room and the next ones I found great items like a Timely Respite one and immunity items for confusion, immobilization and paralyzation…

Thus I could make my next build, the Mage Warrior…

I will try again. This ia a link to the image on my google drive:

And perhaps I was not clear enough, so I will try to explain again using old style angband like graphics 😉

    x x x x x x W . . . . . .
    v v x x x x W . . . . . .
    x x v v x x W . . . . . .

    legenda:

    w grey wall

x also floor, as I used . the graphics got shifted
    v area that was visible.
    G gate.

Note that the Red Wall is solid from top to bottom, so it should block line of sight.
I did some further research after taking the picture, and if you get closer to the red wall the visible area disappears.
Also it occurred even when there was no gate between, so the gate is just coincidental.
My guess would be rounding errors in the line of sight routine, where the wall above and below are both just missed.

Shoot through wallsI have found the opposite, as player you can shoot through solid walls. It happened in a huge red room. It seems the red walls do not block line of sight if a gate is on the other side. The squares behind the gate can be seen and targeted. I have made a screenshot, and will try to post it…

One of my permadeath characters made it to 31 before encountering a room with way too many vampires and a Poltergeist to summon me into the room…
